Nokia 5230 is a highly hyped low cost touch screen smartphone which will be released in January 2010. It comes in a variety of colors and is targeted primarily at the youth. With the Nokia 5230, Nokia aims to grab a share of the segment currently dominated by LG Cookie and Samsung Corby. It is expected to be priced at around $150, which will attract a large number of customers .
Nokia 5230 is being seen by many as a stripped down version of the highly popular and successful Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The 5230 is very much similar to the 5800 in terms of looks. The 5230 has only a standard 2 megapixel camera and does not possess wifi connectivity unlike its costlier cousin, which is justifiable considering the difference in price between the two. However, the 5230 still comes which with 3G connectivity which is indeed pretty cool.
It has a standard 3.5 mm audio jack. This resistive touchscreen phone comes with proximity sensor for auto on/off, handwriting recognition and an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate. Nokia has decided to do away with any tag such as XpressMusic or N series, which is pretty surprising considering that nokia has been releasing all phones(other than low-end ones) from its stable with some tag or the other for quite some time now.
